Coachella Confidential: A Survival Guide to the Raging Weekend
Boho babes, counter-culture hipsters and free-spirited badasses unite. The countdown is on to the most epic two-weekend rager California has ever seen.
How do I even begin to describe the amazingness that is The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival?
Two-words: Anything. Goes.
Taking place under the sizzling desert sun, this modern-day Woodstock is a big-kid playground where morals and good hygine are totally non-existent.
From the moment you step foot on the festival grounds (with unspoken things stuffed in unspoken places) your only concern in life becomes where’s the beer garden? to savor one of the most epic weekends of the year.
In order to make sure you experience Coachella to its fullest mind-blowing potential, here are some of my survival guide secrets.
+ Expect the Unexpected: Like I said, in Coachella land anything goes. From rainstorms to holograms and even a little R. Kelly action, be prepared to go with the flow. Head in with a game plan of your must see artists, but roam the festival with an open-mind. Check out some up and coming bands, make some new friends and if a cute boy asks you to ride the ferris wheel bring protection go for it.
+ Pack the Essentials: Ditch the handbags and maximize your dancing ability by bringing a backpack. Load it up with all the music festival necessities; sunscreen, chapstick, water bottle, a light weight blanket, rad sunnies, face-wipes, hand-sanitizer, gum, cash money and a disposable camera to capture those priceless Coachella moments.
+ Dress for Comfort, Not Style: I get it, Coachella is the perfect time to experiment with new fashion trends but that doesn’t mean you need to dress like a model straight out of the Nasty Gal look book. It’s important to be comfortable so you can really enjoy the entire day. Remember to bring warmer clothes for the nighttime sets, and keep in mind you are surrounded by an insane amount of people so do everyone a favor and leave the indian headdresses at home.
+ Be Safe: Don't take drugs candy from strangers and establish a common meeting ground for you and your wolf pack incase you get separated from the group (because chances are you will).
+ Stay Hydrated: Between the blistering sun and mass binge drinking its important to stay healthy throughout the entire weekend. In order to prevent gnarly dehydration, be sure to bring an empty (plastic) water bottle to refill at the water stations located around the festival grounds.
+ Disconnect: In my opinion this is the most important tip of them all. Put down the phone, step away from social media and get lost in this dreamworld with the people who are actually there experiencing all the unspeakable madness alongside you.
The BFF & I will be Coachillin' at weekend 2 and I am incredibly stoked.
The air will be filled with the sloppy seconds of weekend 1, but I am looking forward to running away, stirring up a little trouble and celebrating 4/20 my birthday with the love of my life in the magical land of Coachella.
Happy 25th to me and happy 4/20 Coachella to you.
xx Fins & Kisses,
The Mermaid.
