The Rum Diary

Hola Mermaids, It’s been two weeks since I’ve jetted over to the Island of Puerto Rico with the hopes to conquer another life ambition, and connect with my latin roots.

This is the first time I’ve tried out the whole “traveling” thing and all I can say is, what an admirable way to approach life. No plans, no friends, and no expectations — just me, a journal and the freedom of adventure. I was fortunate enough to spend my first week in a wonderful home close to the magical town of Old San Juan. Not only did this house have a killer view, more importantly, it was flourishing with love and culture. This week, my adventure led to the beaches of Condado where the streets are crowded with runners, the waters are filled with surfers, and breathtaking sunsets are served up on the reg.

I can’t help but to feel as if I am exactly where my Running Mermaid heart should be in this very moment. However, come Friday, this moment will pass and my Mermaid heart will be put in another unfamiliar place, faced with the challenge to find my comfort, yet again.

Challenge accepted.

I’m pretty sure I figured out one of the many reasons behind our millennial generation's obsession with traveling. To me, it’s almost as if the second you begin to settle into the convince of your surroundings, it’s time to switch up the scene and test the ability to rediscover your peace of mind all over again. With each new environment comes another opportunity to be even better than before. In a minuscule amount of time, you are able to experience yourself growing into a brighter spark of life, becoming even more connected to the insight of your own happiness.

It’s a perpetual cycle — move, adapt, discover, move, adapt, discover— until it's time to catch your plane ride home, and then, as you fall back onto the comfort of your own bed, you feel...?

I’ll let you know when I get there.

xx Besos,

The Puerto Rican Mermaid.
