Screw the Diamond's, Why Books Are a Girl's Best Friend
When I ran away to paradise I didn’t know a soul, I barely even knew myself. I longed for a friend that would provide me with encouraging words and creative inspiration. A wise companion to guide me through this journey, helping me master the art of life.
I began spending my time roaming the aisles of various bookstores on the hunt for a partner in crime of the paperback kind.
Books are those ride or die friends that are always there when you need them. They don’t expect anything in return because they understand you are busy, and when you finally find time to catch up its like you picked up where you last left off.
Not to mention they make for a cheap date if you decide to take your relationship public.
Really, books are the shiz.
They provide us with knowledge by challenging the mind to create a vision from our own wild-ass imagination. While some prefer getting lost in the mystical world of fiction, others may seek an escape in the artistically twisted realm of pop-up’s poetry.
As for me, I am kind of obsessed when it comes to self-empowerment and spirituality books.
Now before you think I’m some kind of pessimistic soul-searching 20-something-year-old (a.k.a hipster) let me assure you, I’m just a curious mermaid fascinated by this world of limitless possibility.
These types of books teach me how to create a reality from the visions of my own wild-ass imagination. They are filled with genuine advice from people who are experiencing this stimulating way of life first-hand.
Allow me to introduce you to some of my paperback pals that inspire, motivate, encourage and challenge me to grab life by the balls and really just go for it.
1. "You Are A Badass" by Jen Sincero: This book is my bible. Seriously, I have it on me at all times so I’m constantly reminding myself to fully embrace my inner badass. What I admire most about the book is Jen’s ability to capture the reader through her writing style. Her clever punch lines and charming wit gives off a vibe like we’ve been friends forever.
2. "Start Something That Matters" by Blake Mycoskie: The creator of TOMS shares his business plan that lead him down the road to personal fulfillment. I loved this read because it really focuses on the importance of building a brand through it’s own unique story. Blake explains how this clever branding tactic allows successful modern-day businesses the power to make a difference by using their voice.
3. "Zen and the Art of Happiness" by Chris Prentiss: This book shows you how to handle life’s unpredictable curveballs with optimism. Chris challenges you to approach life through his personal philosophy, “Everything that happens to me is the best possible thing that can happen to me.” It really teaches the importance of having faith in the universe and within yourself.
4. "Tuesdays With Morrie" by Mitch Albom: “Once you learn how to die, you learn how to live.” Morrie is an old soul who gracefully accepts his fate and shares with you a new outlook on life from his very own death-bed. This is an incredible read that will encourage you to perceive the values of life in a whole new light.
5. "Losing My Virginity: How I’ve Survived, Had Fun, and Made a Fortune Doing Business My Way" by Richard Branson: Now I haven’t really met this friend yet, but all my other friends can’t shut up about his awesomeness. Really, Richard Branson’s autobiography has been mentioned in both "Start Something That Matters" and "You Are a Badass". I mean come on, the guy has his own island so he must have done something right. I’d be an L-7 weenie if I didn’t listen to the advice he has to share.
I know it may sound kind a little lonerish and slightly cray, but these books really have become my some of best friends. And I know they feel the same way, they even said so them self.
“Who you allow into the circle of your life will make a difference in the quality of your life.”

I feel a little desperate since I have to pay my buddies to hang out with me but let me tell you...the way life has been going lately, I think it’s safe to say I’m in with the cool kids.
