A Beginner's Guide to Wellness

Am I crazy or is everyday a celebration in the social media world?! One day it’s #NationalDonutDay, and the next is #GlobalRunningDay, followed up with #WorldOceansDay and #NationalBestFriendsDay. So really, are you even surprised when I say today is #GlobalWellnessDay?!

And although it may seem super basic of me to partake in these hashtag holiday’s, I can't help it, because this is the kind of digital fiesta I’m all game for.

Now when you hear the term “wellness” you might instantly think of gluten-free freaks with a weird obsession for kombucha and kale. However, as a true wellness junkie, I’m here to tell you all that stuff is bullshit!

Wellness isn’t about being a full-on vegan or practicing yoga on the reg, wellness is about doing whatever brings a feeling of happiness and harmony to your heart. It takes conscious effort and constant action, but once you start to take care of your own wellbeing, life will start to take care of you.

So if you are looking to get down on this social media celebration, but aren't really sure where to start, don’t sweat it sister! As a (practically) Certified Wellness Coach, I’m here to help bring that magical harmony between mind, body, and spirit into your everyday life.

Think of it as my beginner's guide to wellness.

1. Move Your Body

No one says you have run six miles a day, or hit the gym for hours on end. All you have to do is move your body and break a sweat at least once a day. The truth is, working out isn’t a burden, it’s a privilege that many people are denied. So get out there do whatever makes you feel alive and present in your body.

2. Keep a Journal

I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again, if you aren’t already scribbling away your thoughts in a journal you need to do so— ASAP. It’s the ultimate way to clear your mind, make sense of your feelings and recognize your souls deepest desires.

3. Set an Intention

Living each day with intention really helps shift your focus on being present. Try by choosing a mantra you truly believe in, then bring the saying to life though your thoughts, choices and actions in each moment.

4.  Get Outside

Feeling the warm sunshine on your skin or watching palm trees sway gracefully in the wind, is the perfect reminder we are apart of a force far beyond our own power. Getting outside and immercing yourself in nature helps raise your vibration, making you feel more connected to our world's universal energy.

5. Treat Yo’ Self

It’s important to relax, unwind and revel in all the beauty that is you! Kick your feet up for a pedicure, eat cake for breakfast, get your glow on with a face mask, sip on champagne during sunset, or soak up some suds in a bubble bath. Taking the time to do what’s good for the soul, only attracts more love and happiness into your life.

6. Practice Gratitude

As my favorite author Jen Sincero once wrote, “Gratitude is the gateway drug to happiness.”

Being in a state of gratitude is all about having a deep appreciation for the many miracles in your life. Rather than caught up in all your wants, take the time to show thanks for what you already have and watch as the floodgates open to the power of abundance.

* Kill two birds with one wellness stone by starting a gratitude journal and taking note of all the moments you are thankful for and why.

7. Breathe Deep

Conscious breathing releases stress, elevates your mood and strengthens the connection with your intuition. Anytime you are feeling lost, confused, anxious or overwhelmed— sit still, breathe deep and trust in your breath to guide the way.

So now that you know the basics to living a life of “wellness” try incorporating these healthy habits into your daily grind and watch as a powerful shift  happens from within.

Then, when you feel ready to take you wellness game to the next level with some oil pulling, sage burning and good juju manifesting, hit me up for a one-on-one wellness coaching session!

Like I said before, it takes conscious effort and constant action, but the moment your mind and body begin to work together in harmony, I promise your true spirit will come to life.

Happy #NationalRoséDay #GlobalWellnessDay Mermaids, get out there and celebrate whatever hastag holiday you believe in!
